Monorail

It all started about 8 years ago when my best friend, Björn, put a cd in an old, crappy cd-player. It was a dark and rainy day in Denmark and we were doing nothing, until the first notes of a song called “Electric” started flowing through the room. We were listening to a lot of different music but we certainly never heard something like that before. “Madrugada“, Norways biggest rock-band, became a huge part in our lives and everyone who enjoys their music knows why. Their first album “Industrial Silence” is one of the best albums ever made and should be found in everyone’s collection.

Since I was singing all my life I finally found my destiny and knew I wanted to sing in a Madrugada cover-band. There’s no chance I could ever keep up with Sivert Høyem’s fantastic voice, but that’s not what this is all about. After the tragic death of Madrugada guitarist Robert Burås in late 2007 the band played a couple of gigs but called it quits in the end of 2008. For us, it’s not about anything else but trying to capture a tiny bit of this huge amount of talent and to go out and have fun playing their songs.

One day I was talking to another good old friend of mine, Alex, who has been in a band for as long as I know him. He was looking for a bandname and at some point he brought up “Monorail“. And even though I wasn’t in a band or making music in any kind of way, I asked him not to use this name because I liked it so much and wanted to use it for my band. Someday.

The band itself was founded in March 2008 and we recorded our first EP “The Wedding EP” for a very close friend’s wedding. We also played our first “real gig” at their wedding and an even bigger one on new year’s eve the same year. When we finished our set and people actually applauded and wanted more, we knew it was the right place to be and the right thing to do.

It’s kinda tough to find people with the same enthusiasm for a band and music you don’t hear very often. I’m very happy I found my bandmates – it’s honestly like a dream came true for me.
